Innovators and Leaders in West Virginia Snow Sports
Snow Sports Industry - sales/rental and suppliers and organizers

Katheryn (Worden) & Belmont Cleaver

Katheryn (Worden) and Belmont Cleaver owned and operated the Worden's Hotel and Belmont's Department Store in Davis, WV.  The businesses serviced the Ski Club of Washington, DC, and other visitors to the area. The New Howard Hotel was completed in 1898 and stood at the corner of Thomas Avenue and Third Street. In 1917, Harry Worden purchased and remodeled the building. Then in 1927, the hotel and restaurant opened under the name Worden's Hotel. The hotel accommodated hunters, anglers, spelunkers, soldiers, hikers, and skiers. The restaurant's home-cooking attracted locals and out-of-towners. Belmont's opened initially as a Coffman-Fisher Company but later operated under Belmont's name. Belmont added West Virginia's first ski-rental shop, initially renting World War II army-surplus skis.
